Dream Dancer Janet Morris 9780425076880 Books Reviews
I picked up Dream Dancer because it’s the latest by one of my favorite authors. Not really knowing what to expect...what I got was another gripping story; the blending of sci-fi, fantasy, and sensuality. From start to finish as usual, Janet Morris’s masterful story-telling captivated me. Looking forward to Book 2 in this enthralling series. Loved it!
I love anything author Janet Morris writes. Never disappointed and always looking out for her next release. Dream Dancer is amazing. No spoilers here. The well thought out plot will have you riveted. I highly recommend if you want to be swept away this stunning read. Some parts are for adults only. Five stars!!
Dream Dancer is a wonderful novel, a science fiction in its best! Shebat's story is touching, inspiring, controversial at times, compelling all along! The depth of her and other character is astounding. I found myself immersed in it as though I was following a person I know and care about it. Couldn't put this book down until the very last word!
A fan of this author, I was delighted to dive into the new series, a saga of hunger for power, passion and struggle, all culminating in Shebat's story, a simple girl from earth and yet a person with underlying passion and lust for power, a woman who was not destined to settle for simple fate. Having mixed feelings for the heroine, I found myself in the middle of the whirlwind of futuristic primitive earth and the sophistication of the outer space and its worlds, as though I was to travel those by myself as well. The author does an amazing job of waving her tale, creating realistic words and characters one can't but accept as friends or enemies, as though they were living their lives and fighting their fights alongside with the reader!
This is the revised, expanded Author's Cut of book one in the Janet Morris' classic Kerrion Empire Trilogy. The first time I read this novel in its original edition, I was positively wowed. For me it contained all the great elements of Isaac Asimov, Poul Anderson, and Frank Herbert, to name three, not to mention such great science fiction films such as Star Trek and Star Wars. I really related to Shebat, the earth witch, and could easily understand her odyssey. This is grand adventure on an intergalactic scale, with well-drawn characters, some serious human drama, thoughtful ideas, intelligent concepts, and a fine sense of humor -- all the usual hallmarks you'll find in any of the novels written by Janet Morris (and those with her husband, Chris, too.) Morris is a fabulous author who has a real gift for style and prose, too. She always uses just the right tone for every novel and series she writes. Kudo to Janet Morris!
I read this book a long time ago, too; recently thinking about internet access, I remembered that this book was one that prophesized in-head database access, so I dug it up via . Very cool (OK, the cover art did its job!) This is not an s-f skimmer - you have to really slow down and dig into the dense, poetic prose. The author focuses on encounters and critical junctures, and zips by developments she's not really interested in, leaving you pondering the details for yourself. (I'd like to read the 'director's cut'.) Some interesting topics, set in year 2251 sponge space (think wormholes), old Earth magic (spells); 'internet' access inside your head, if you rate a connection; space cruisers, again with a mental interface, who develop sentience; dream dancers (leave it to your imagination here); power politics (that never changes, does it?); precocious and sexy 17-year-olds dumped into the middle of all this. That's just some of Morris' "vision of the future", as she says in the intro.
The series is an intricate work of art. I'd bet that's why it's not known much now this is not an easy read, almost filigree in its use of language - but it's worth the effort.
I was glad to see the book as a kindle edition. It was worth the wait. I hope the other two book show up. ☺
