I like the plot of this story, it was a little more exciting then some. I really like the heroine. I enjoyed their little love story. It wasn't my absolute favorite. I'm not going to read the 2nd the second book in the series. In this book, a lady is going to lose her home to an evil neighbor. She begins trying to find out why he wants her house so much, and gets herself caught up in something WAY bigger. A spy working on the something bigger, ends up trying to protect her and help her and falls in love with her. All is well in the end, but it just didn't capture me like some stories have. It was a fun story and I don't regret reading it.Tags : What A Rake Wants [Maggi Andersen] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. What A Rake Wants Maggi Andersen 9781910282038 Books Reviews
Refreshing story that focuses more on solving a mystery than in building a never-ending loop of lust and desire. I call it refreshing because although I do enjoy a good spicy romantic story, I feel that lately some authors center their stories in how much the main characters stir the passions for each other but the story in itself feels flat.
There were moments that the world built reminded me of a novel written in the actual period. I was happily surprised to feel that way by a book written in modern in times.
I admit there were situations that a lady in her position may not have done or a diplomat like himself should not have attempted but such situations only added to the story and made it all more enjoyable. I liked very much how our hero and heroine, Irish Lord Montsimon and Lady Althea Brookwood, kind of semi-follow the rules of the time and don't just throw themselves into the throes of passion (insert overly dramatic tone here). Their relationship builds as the story progresses and by the end of the story you know the feelings for each other are true and honest. It's not a sweet story (some people may refer to it as "clean") because there is a "very adult situation" that DOES NOT demerit the romance or enjoyment of the rest of the story (They're adults, it's a romance, it's bound to happen, people!)
Now the politics and history of the story was a little hard to follow. Also, it was hard to keep track of all the characters with the mention of all the Lord This and Mr. That. However, it was never hard to go back to the storyline.
Another thing I liked about the story is that Maggi didn't worry in forcing an Irish lilt on us. We know he’s Irish because it’s in the story and not in some crazy, hard to read dialogue. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will definitely read the other stories in the series.

What a Rake Wants by Maggi Anderson is a 2014 Knox Robinson Publishing release. I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes.
This was a light regency period romance with a little intrigue and adventure on the side. Althea is widowed and frankly she is relieved. Her husband was not a tender man in the bedroom and often belittled her. Althea has been left with a piece of property and not much else after her husband's death, but Owltree Cottage was hers and she wanted to retire there in peace. Alas, that was not to be. When Sir Crowethorne explains to Althea that he intends to have her property unless she agrees to become his mistress she decides to fight back with all her might.
Enter, Kieran Flynn, an Irishman, Lord Montsimon, King George's investigator. He has been commissioned to keep tabs on Althea, as her late husband appears to have involved in some kind of plot, and the idea of seducing her is part of his plan. After all he has a reputation for being a notorious rake.
While I have personally chosen to reduce the number of regency romances I read, I couldn't help but try this one. So, I will be honest and say there is nothing in this one that hasn't been done already, but I did find the story delightful and entertaining. I enjoyed the dialogue between Flynn and Althea, the adventures they had and the mystery of just why on earth Althea's humble estate suddenly became such a hot commodity.
Flynn's insight into Althea's reluctance to become involved with another man, and few big revelations about her former husband, helped her realize that all men and all relationships were not bad and marriage can be a wonderful thing. Flynn had the patience of Job sometimes trying to convince Althea they would be good together, but he allowed her to come to this realization on her own. This is a quick, light and easy read with a really nice ending, perfect for a little escapism.
This one gets a 3.5 rounded to 4
I enjoyed the 3 books in this series
This was a very good read. So good I read faster than I had hoped to. Enough heat in the love scenes that a parent might want to check it out!!!
Mediocre amusing plot, which I liked, but overall, IMHO, a difficult and choppy read. The work's proofreading is not perfect, and there is a central and pervasive composition difficulty the lack of transitions. Paragraph and idea movement is poorly handled. I was taught, once upon a time, that the last sentence of a paragraph should introduce the first sentence of the next paragraph. My review's central comment is that Ms. Andersen's work would be infinitely better if the read, idea to idea and paragraph to paragraph, were "smoother".
