I read the first book in this series and enjoyed it, even though it had some problems. After I read books two (combined books) I found myself having more trouble getting into the story. Now, on to book three, and I'm done. And here are just two reasons why.1) At the start of the story, we learn that it's 13 minutes before the New Year. After tending to the horses, Avery thinks how she's lonely. Her sister, Bella, calls to wish her Happy New Year. Bella is at a party with a new guy named Julio. She recommend that Avery find herself a man and get horizontal for a while. It might help her relax. They hang up, and Avery mulls over that thought. Not another mention of New Year. Why not concluded her thoughts by ending with her wishing herself a better new year? The owners of the farm were setting off fire works. Why didn't the author finish the circle?
2) At 10%, Ms. Davenport is TELLING me how attracted Wolfe is to Avery and vice versa. I don't feel a single tingle. She could have taken the time to SHOW me how they were feeling, but she didn't. It's one of the things I'm not enjoying about Ms. Davenport's writing.
So, I'm done. She's got a lot of potential, but not if someone doesn't help her.

Melting Ice Game On in Seattle Seattle Sockeyes Book 3 edition by Jami Davenport Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Have read all of Jami's books and I think this one just might be my favorite yet. Sounds predictable, troubled hockey player meets sensitive horsewoman, but it's not. I won't spoil the read for anyone but going into the story, but it's safe to say that my interest was caught from the very beginning and I hated when the book ended. Am hopeful that as the books continue Ms Davenport will revisit these wonderful characters so we can keep up with their lives. All the characters in her books seem like part of the family when you finish reading the book.
Avery is a horse trainer who lives in an apartment on a farm with her twin sister Emma. She has two other sisters, Izzy and Bella and they all used to work together in a company they created called Party Crashers. Avery just dropped out of college much to her older sister Izzy's dismay. Avery wanted to train horses. She can relate to them better than people.
Isaac is a bad boy of hockey. He recently got traded to the Seattle Sockeyes and this is basically his last chance to play hockey in the NHL even though he's only 26 and an amazing player. He's not happy and gets to rent a house next door to this farm. The first day at his house, his dog escapes and runs over to the farm where Avery works. He chases after the dog and meets Avery. It's clearly lust at first sight. They have a lust filled moment like no other time before them.
The next day, Avery sees her sister Izzy who warns her to stay away from her new neighbor, Isaac. Isaac meets the captain of the Seattle Sockeyes, Cooper who finds out he lives near his sister-in-law to be and warns Isaac to stay away from her. Isaac doesn't want to ruin his chances with this team as he realizes if they don't want him, he's out of the NHL. He immediately goes to see Avery to tell her they can't tell anyone what happened, when she beats him to the punch.
However, neither of them can get the other out of their minds. They agree to be strictly friends. When he travels with the team, Avery watches his dog, which gives him an excuse to contact her every day. You're able to watch this beautiful friendship grow. There are also several subplots that keep you going and wanting more. Eventually, Isaac decides he wants more from this relationship and has to approach his team's captain to get his blessing because he doesn't want to lose his job. He gets his blessing and can finally ask Avery out on a "normal" date.
I loved this book! You actually got to see this bad boy's ice melt around him. I loved how they had this great friendship growing before it jumped back in to anything more. I loved how there's some wonderful happy endings in this book. I hope the author has plans for Avery's twin sister because I can't wait to read that book!
I am an avid fan of all Jami's sports series. She is a one click, have to have her books for me. When I first read the synopsis I knew this was going to be a good one. Avery is the sister of Izzy and I admit I was more than annoyed with her in Izzy and Cooper's book because I felt she didn't understand nor appreciate all Izzy was doing for her. Jami proves in Melting Ice that there are always two sides to the story.
I loved Ice and Avery's story. From page one, Isaac became by BBF, that closed off rough, bad ass, leave me alone I don't care attitude, hiding all that pain just pulled me in. And Avery, she was the perfect person to cut through it all and see the 'real' Ice. It was a match made in Seattle. Jami did an awesome job of moving their relationship. There were points when i just 'knew' what was going to happen and when it didn't, I was surprised in a very GOOD way. The scenes between Ice and the team were realistic and well written. I was pulled into the locker room as if I was sitting on the edge of my seat.
Having read all her books, I have to say, Isaac and Avery's story is by far my favorite so far. It left me hungering for Blindsided and the Chrismas story, wanting to know what will happen with Tanner and Emma, Blake and Sarah. To find out whether Isaac and Tanner can 'ever' be brothers.
If you have considered purchasing this series, I highly recommend it, as well as her other ones. Jami will pull you in to a world you won't want to leave.
I’m really enjoying this series and Isaac and Avery’s story is my favourite so far. Their attraction to each other is immediate but Avery is the sister-in-law to Isaac’s team captain, making her off limits to date and they decide to be friends. There is a lovely, natural progression to the relationship and the trust builds without any angst between the two of them, the issues they deal with are all external to what they are becoming to each other. I liked that Isaac is seen as this angry loner before getting to Seattle but that is nothing that Avery sees and he doesn’t implode a good situation due to his issues, he tries to deal with them, both internally and with Avery. With this kind of communication Avery is able to deal with Isaac patiently and kindly and I just loved the two of them together.
