The Christmas Wish by Richard SiddowayWill Martin is back to the town where his grandparents had raised him when his parents are killed.
He's there to help the grandmother to settle the estate and he is given the journals, one written every Christmas eve....He recalls many happy holidays.
She wants him to find out about the woman mentioned in the journals for over 27 years....
As life goes on they each learn all the things the grandfather had done for the others in town, whether it be money or a good word to further their education and all kinds of charity work done, with no recognition.
The town is growing on him and he's getting pressure to go back to the city to his girlfriend...love that his handshake was good enough as a signed contract.
Love how the ends are all tied as the last page is turned.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Who is Lillian? What happens when a man who is Christ-like appears to have a single flaw? What will people focus on? This is a great story of forgiveness and love.
I loved the TV film, so I wanted to read the book upon which it was based. I was not disappointed. It's refreshing to read a story that celebrates the moral character and integrity of its hero, who happens to be the main character's deceased grandfather. What makes it even better is that the answer to the mystery that confounds Will and his grandmother is something they could never have guessed; something that restores their faith in humanity and teaches an invaluable lesson about the power of forgiveness and faith in one another. You'll need a box of tissues at the end (it's okay; they're for good tears). An unusually beautiful story in this day and age; very touching.
I love the book and the movie!
Richard lives in my neighborhood. I loved this story, it was appropriate for Christmas.

A quick read. A warm holiday story and depending on the reader, a real tear jerker at the end.
This is a beautiful hard back book that I chose as a gift for a friend in a book club. The story is sweet and inspiring. Happy with this purchase.
This is the novel on which the movie is based. In it, Will Martin, a big-city business success even though he is in his early thirties, returns to the small town where his grandparents raised him. Will's parents died in a car accident when Will was four, so his grandparents are essentially his parents. Will's grandfather's death is what takes Will back home, largely to decide what to do with the real estate business that the grandfather ran for decades and willed to Will. The plan is fairly simple. Will will spend the time necessary to upgrade the business or sell it, spend time with his grandmother, and then head back to New York with the socialite woman whom he is dating.
From this premise, the majority of the plot should be obvious--and it is. However, there is another part. Will's grandmother has asked for one gift. She and her husband kept journals for nearly all of their married life, and cryptic references to a Lillian in the grandfather's journals have piqued her curiosity. She asks Will to find out who Lillian is--or was.
"The Christmas Wish" is probably everything one could ask for from a short Christmas novel. There seems to be a bit too much going on, though, for Will's Scrooge-like metamorphosis seems rushed. We welcome it, to be sure, since it is the point of the novel, but it still rings slightly hollow. I don't think most readers will care too much. I didn't. But I did notice it.
